To insulate a shipping container, fit closed-cell spray foam, rigid foam board, or mineral wool to the walls and ceiling. The most common method is spray foam at 50 to 75 mm thickness, applied directly to the steel. This blocks condensation and stops most heat transfer. A plywood or panel inner lining finishes the surface.

Insulation works by slowing heat transfer, not by creating warmth. The biggest benefit is often consistency, because reducing rapid temperature changes can also reduce condensation.
